New group care model aims to boost HIV prevention in sex workers

NCT ID NCT05929521

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This early-stage study tests a group healthcare model called Centering PrEP+ (C-PrEP+) to help sex workers take and stick with PrEP, a daily pill that prevents HIV. Instead of one-on-one visits, small groups meet with providers for health checks and interactive learning. The study enrolls 24 sex workers and clinic staff to see if this approach is feasible and acceptable.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Group PrEP Care (C-PrEP+)

What this could lead to

If successful, this group care model could make HIV prevention more accessible and effective for sex workers, potentially reducing HIV transmission in this community.

What could go wrong

This is a very early pilot study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is behavioral, not a drug, so its impact on actual HIV rates is uncertain.
