Quick Pre-Surgery therapy eases anxiety and pain for kidney donors
NCT ID NCT07261917
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a brief psychiatric session one hour before surgery could help living kidney donors feel less anxious, have more stable vital signs during surgery, and experience less pain afterward. 123 donors took part, with some receiving the therapy and others standard care. The goal was to see if this simple, low-cost support could improve the donor's experience and recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Preoperative psychiatric consultation (psychoeducation, breathing exercises, guided imagery)
What this could lead to
If effective, this approach could become a standard, low-cost way to help kidney donors feel calmer and recover with less pain.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study without a later phase. The intervention is brief and may not work for everyone or in different hospital settings.
