First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study looked at whether giving a carbohydrate drink two hours before surgery is safe for people with well-controlled type 2 diabetes. 76 adults were randomly assigned to either get the drink or follow standard fasting. Researchers checked blood sugar levels and stomach contents to see if the drink caused unsafe blood sugar spikes or increased aspiration risk. The goal is to see if this approach can be used in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs for diabetic patients.
