Scientists scan baby brains to see how Mom's drug use affects bonding

NCT ID NCT01134770

Summary

This study aims to understand how a mother's use of substances like cocaine, alcohol, marijuana, or cigarettes during pregnancy might affect her bond with her baby and the baby's early brain development. Researchers are inviting mothers who have or have not used these substances to participate with their infants. The study involves interviews, simple brain scans for babies, and collecting samples from mothers to learn more about the biology of early attachment.
