Scientists probe why pregnancy protects against COVID-19 but not flu

NCT ID NCT04962477

Summary

This study aimed to understand why pregnant women tend to get very sick from the flu but often have milder COVID-19. Researchers collected nasal cell samples from 48 healthy pregnant and non-pregnant women to compare how their bodies' initial defenses and virus entry points differ. The goal was to learn the biological reasons behind this different response to two similar respiratory viruses.
