Forecasting depression relapse: new study aims to predict the unpredictable

NCT ID NCT06746155

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jul 10, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study follows 252 people whose major depression is in remission to find early warning signs of relapse. Researchers will track symptoms, physical activity, sleep, thinking skills, and brain activity. The goal is to build a model that tells doctors who is likely to relapse and when, so they can step in early to prevent a full depressive episode.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a practical tool that helps doctors predict and prevent depression relapse, improving long-term management.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not testing a treatment. The model may not be accurate enough for widespread use, and results may not apply to all patients.
