Blood test may predict implant scarring after breast cancer radiation
NCT ID NCT04342546
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a blood test called NovaGray RILA Breast® to see if it can predict severe capsular contracture (hardening and tightening of scar tissue around a breast implant) after radiotherapy. Researchers will enroll 250 breast cancer patients who have had a mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction and need chest wall radiation. The test is done before and after radiotherapy, and its accuracy will be compared to actual outcomes over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- NovaGray RILA Breast® test (blood test)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this test could help doctors identify patients at high risk for severe capsular contracture before radiotherapy, allowing personalized treatment planning.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The test may not accurately predict toxicity in all patients, and results may not change outcomes.
