Belly muscle size may predict surgery risks in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT07098871

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 129 adults with gastrointestinal cancer to see if measuring the thickness of their belly and diaphragm muscles before surgery could help predict complications after the operation. Researchers used ultrasound to measure these muscles and then tracked recovery for 30 days. The goal was to find simple, non-invasive ways to identify patients at higher risk, so doctors can better prepare and personalize care.
