Blood test could predict who gets severe radiation damage

NCT ID NCT00893035

Summary

This study tested whether a simple blood test could predict which breast and prostate cancer patients would develop severe long-term side effects from radiation therapy. Researchers measured how certain immune cells reacted to radiation in the lab. The goal was to identify the 5% of patients at highest risk so doctors could adjust treatment for everyone else.
