New scan could warn doctors before breathing treatment fails

NCT ID NCT07366541

Summary

This study tested a special imaging scan called Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) to see if it could predict when a common oxygen therapy for breathing failure would stop working. Researchers monitored 90 adult patients in China who were receiving oxygen through a high-flow nasal cannula. They wanted to see if the EIT scan could give doctors an early warning, within 48 hours, that a patient might need more intensive breathing support.
