Neck scan may predict dangerous blood pressure drop in elderly during spinal anesthesia
NCT ID NCT07286422
First seen Dec 17, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looks at whether measuring the size of a vein compared to an artery in the neck can help predict a sudden drop in blood pressure that sometimes happens when older adults receive spinal anesthesia for lower body surgeries. Researchers will measure this ratio using ultrasound before the anesthesia is given. The goal is to find a simple, non-invasive way to identify patients at higher risk so doctors can take steps to prevent complications.
