Neck scan may forecast risky blood pressure plunge in elderly surgery patients
NCT ID NCT07286422
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether measuring the size of a vein compared to an artery in the neck can help predict a dangerous drop in blood pressure that sometimes happens when older adults get spinal anesthesia for lower body surgery. Researchers will measure this ratio using ultrasound before the anesthesia is given. The goal is to find a simple, non-invasive way to identify patients at higher risk so doctors can take steps to prevent complications.
