New algorithm could help ICU patients get the right rehab at the right time
NCT ID NCT06532994
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study aims to create a prediction tool that helps doctors decide which ICU patients who have been on a breathing machine will benefit most from early rehabilitation. Researchers will collect data from 250 patients and use machine learning to build an algorithm. The goal is to improve recovery and reduce complications by targeting rehab to those who need it.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
early rehabilitation intervention (physical and cognitive therapy tailored to patient's consciousness and cooperation level)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify which ICU patients are most likely to benefit from early rehab, leading to better recovery and shorter hospital stays.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. The algorithm may not work for all patients or in different hospitals, and it won't directly improve health on its own.
