New study aims to make intubation safer for obese surgery patients

NCT ID NCT07316179

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at 52 obese adults having weight-loss surgery to see which method better predicts a difficult breathing tube insertion: a standard checklist (El Ganzouri Risk Index) or an ultrasound of the airway. Participants will be checked before surgery using both methods, and the results will be compared to what actually happens during the procedure. The goal is to improve safety and planning for these patients.
