PET scans could revolutionize heart attack prediction for ICD patients
NCT ID NCT03493516
First seen Mar 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looks at 302 people with heart disease and an implantable defibrillator (ICD) to see if a special PET scan can better predict who is at risk for sudden cardiac arrest. Currently, doctors mainly use a measure of heart pumping strength, but this research adds information about nerve damage in the heart, heart size, and blood markers. The goal is to improve how we identify high-risk patients so they get the right treatment.
