10,000 relatives to be tracked for early Crohn's warning signs

NCT ID NCT07316621

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study aims to develop a risk score for Crohn's disease by following 10,000 first-degree relatives (parents, siblings, or children) of people with Crohn's. Participants aged 16 to 35 will give blood and stool samples and answer lifestyle questionnaires every six months. The goal is to see if combining blood markers with lifestyle factors can predict who will develop the disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a way to identify people at high risk for Crohn's disease before symptoms start, enabling early monitoring or prevention strategies.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The risk score may not accurately predict disease, and results may take years to confirm.
