20-Year study tests if genetic blueprints can tame devastating disorders

NCT ID NCT07327164

Summary

This study looked back at 20 years of medical records for 1,200 patients in Western China with rare, lifelong genetic disorders that affect the skin, brain, and nerves. It aimed to see if a personalized approach—using genetic testing to guide drug choices and coordinating care among multiple specialists—helps people live longer without their disease getting worse, better controls seizures and tumors, and reduces overall medical costs. Researchers compared patients who received this coordinated, precision care to those who received standard, uncoordinated treatment.
