Pre-Surgery fluids may keep blood pressure stable on the operating table

NCT ID NCT05079269

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving patients extra fluids through an IV before surgery can help prevent dangerously low blood pressure caused by anesthesia. Low blood pressure during surgery can lead to complications, especially in older adults or those with heart or blood vessel problems. The trial will involve 550 adults scheduled for major non-cardiac surgery who are at higher risk for this issue. Researchers will compare those who get pre-operative fluids to those who do not, measuring blood pressure changes and the need for medications to raise pressure.
