Could putting a Heart-Lung machine at the scene save more cardiac arrest victims?
NCT ID NCT02527031
First seen Jun 13, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether placing a heart-lung machine (ECMO) at the location of a cardiac arrest, rather than waiting until the patient reaches the hospital, could improve survival with good brain function. About 65 adults with refractory cardiac arrest were enrolled. The goal was to see if faster ECMO support could raise survival from under 5% to 20%.
