Could a plasma injection help athletes heal muscles faster?
NCT ID NCT07566039
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a single injection of platelet-poor plasma (PPP) into an acute muscle injury helps athletes heal better than standard care. About 90 athletes aged 18-45 with leg muscle strains will receive the injection plus physical therapy. Researchers will use MRI scans to measure scar tissue and muscle regrowth over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Platelet-poor plasma (PPP) injection
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to heal muscle injuries in athletes, reducing scar tissue and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 90 participants, and it hasn't started yet. The treatment may not prove better than standard care, and results may not apply to all injuries.
