Stomach acid drugs may skew h. pylori stool DNA results

NCT ID NCT07516262

First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking common acid-reducing drugs (proton pump inhibitors, or PPIs) changes the accuracy of a stool DNA test for H. pylori infection. About 25 adults who need long-term PPI treatment will provide stool and stomach samples while on the drug and again after stopping it for four weeks. The goal is to see if the test works better when people pause their medication, helping doctors choose the best way to diagnose H. pylori.
