Pushing too hard? study tests best fatigue level for senior strength training
NCT ID NCT07522398
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how different levels of fatigue during power training affect strength, muscle function, and recovery in healthy adults aged 65 to 85. Participants will do three supervised leg-press sessions, stopping when their movement speed drops by 10% or 30%, or matching the total work of the 30% session but stopping at 10%. Researchers will measure muscle strength, activation, soreness, and blood markers to find the safest and most effective training approach.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Power training at different velocity loss thresholds (10% vs 30%)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help design safer and more effective power-training programs to improve strength and mobility in older adults.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to all older adults. It measures short-term responses, not long-term benefits.
