First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether a dietary supplement made from resistant potato starch can improve gut health and ease symptoms in 11 people with cirrhosis who have had episodes of hepatic encephalopathy (brain fog). Participants take the starch for 4 weeks while researchers measure changes in stool bacteria byproducts and mental function. The goal is to see if this simple food ingredient can help manage a serious liver complication.
