First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study tested if making a small cut in the sac around the heart (posterior pericardiotomy) during open-heart surgery can prevent a common complication called atrial fibrillation. 210 adults having heart surgery in Yemen were randomly assigned to get the extra cut or standard care. The goal was to see if the cut reduced irregular heartbeats, fluid buildup, and other problems after surgery.
