Doctors seek better way to spot Post-Surgery bowel stoppage

NCT ID NCT06018961

Summary

This study aims to test a new scoring system (the IFEED score) to better define and measure a common complication called postoperative ileus, where the bowels temporarily stop working after digestive surgery. Researchers will follow 161 patients undergoing colorectal surgery to see if this score accurately reflects how long patients need to stay in the hospital. The goal is to create a clearer, more consistent way to identify this problem, which affects about 20% of patients and can lead to longer hospital stays.
