Red wine without the alcohol: a new weapon against aging?
NCT ID NCT06871384
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether drinking non-alcoholic red wine, which is rich in natural compounds called polyphenols, can help older adults keep their thinking sharp and muscles strong. Researchers will give 72 people aged 60-74 either non-alcoholic red wine or water, both as part of a Mediterranean diet, and track changes in memory, grip strength, and gut health over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
non-alcoholic red wine (rich in polyphenols)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary addition that helps older adults maintain memory and muscle strength as they age.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 72 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The effects may be modest or not significant.
