Brush vs bur: which tool erases gum stains best?
NCT ID NCT07402720
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests two minimally invasive tools for removing dark pigment from gums: a polishing brush and a ceramic bur. Twenty adults with noticeable gum pigmentation will have each side of their mouth treated with a different tool. The goal is to see which method reduces pigment better, causes less pain, and leads to faster healing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
polishing brush and ceramic soft tissue trimming bur
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, it could show that a polishing brush is a gentler, equally effective option for removing dark gum spots, improving patient comfort and satisfaction.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both methods are cosmetic and may not permanently remove pigmentation.
