Bedside ultrasound could speed up DVT diagnosis
NCT ID NCT07400510
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a fast, bedside ultrasound (called POCUS) can diagnose deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the leg as accurately as the standard, more time-consuming ultrasound. About 50 adults with DVT symptoms will get both tests, and researchers will compare the results and track how quickly treatment starts. If POCUS works well, it could help doctors diagnose and treat dangerous blood clots faster.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a fast bedside ultrasound is reliable enough to diagnose DVT, leading to quicker treatment and fewer complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. The test might miss some clots or lead to false alarms.
