Could targeted exercises rebuild strength after Guillain-Barré?

NCT ID NCT07745556

First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This trial tests whether combining proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (a type of stretching that improves flexibility and strength) with core strengthening exercises can help people with Guillain-Barré syndrome recover balance, muscle strength, and the ability to perform daily activities. About 32 adults in the subacute or recovery stage (2 to 12 weeks after onset) will be randomly assigned to either this exercise program or conventional physical therapy. The exercises are done four times a week for eight weeks, with progress measured using standard balance, strength, and daily-living scales.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) combined with core strengthening exercises
What this could lead to
If effective, this combination of stretching and core exercises could offer a way to improve balance, strength, and daily living skills for people recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercises are generally safe but could cause muscle soreness or fatigue.
