New DNA test could speed up pneumonia diagnosis in ICU
NCT ID NCT05979350
First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tests whether a new DNA test (mNGS) can help doctors identify the bacteria or virus causing pneumonia faster than standard methods. About 114 ICU patients on breathing machines will be randomly assigned to get either the new test or usual care. The goal is to see if faster diagnosis leads to better antibiotic use, shorter hospital stays, and lower death rates.
