Simple breathing moves may help young children fight pneumonia
NCT ID NCT07070271
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether special breathing techniques called neurophysiological facilitation of respiration can improve oxygen levels and shorten hospital stays in children aged 6 months to 2 years with pneumonia. The techniques involve gentle stretches and co-contraction of the abdomen, applied once daily for five days. Researchers will compare these to standard chest physical therapy to see which helps children breathe easier and go home sooner.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
respiratory neurophysiological facilitation techniques
What this could lead to
If effective, these simple breathing techniques could become a standard part of pneumonia care for young children, potentially shortening hospital stays.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 36 children, so results may not apply to all cases. The techniques may not improve outcomes compared to standard chest therapy.
