Hospital study tests if weaker antibiotic can fight senior pneumonia

Summary
This study aims to find out if a simpler, narrower-spectrum antibiotic (amoxicillin) works as well as a stronger, broader-spectrum one (amoxicillin/clavulanate) for treating community-acquired pneumonia in people aged 65 and older who are hospitalized outside the intensive care unit. It will involve 326 participants and directly compare the effectiveness and safety of the two treatments over 30 days. The goal is to see if using the simpler antibiotic can be just as effective while potentially reducing side effects and antibiotic resistance.
