Could donor immune cells beat a rare brain infection?
NCT ID NCT02694783
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This early-phase study tested whether giving special immune cells (PyVST) from a healthy relative could safely treat progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a serious brain infection in people with weakened immune systems. Sixty adults with PML received up to three infusions of these lab-grown virus-killing cells. The main goal was to check safety and feasibility, with secondary aims to see if brain lesions and symptoms improved.
