Blood patch may slash chest tube need after lung ablation

NCT ID NCT06651658

First seen Feb 04, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting a small amount of the patient's own blood into the lung lining can prevent air leaks after thermal ablation for lung cancer. About 106 adults scheduled for lung ablation will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care or the extra blood patch. If it works, fewer patients will need a chest drain, which could mean less pain, faster recovery, and possibly same-day discharge.
