Could less be more? study tests lower blood platelet transfusions for tiniest babies

NCT ID NCT06676904

Summary

This study aims to find the best platelet transfusion level for extremely premature babies (born at 23-27 weeks). Researchers will compare whether using a lower platelet count as the trigger for transfusion is as safe as using a higher trigger. The goal is to improve survival without major bleeding while potentially reducing the number of transfusions these vulnerable infants receive.
