Trial seeks safer blood treatment for world's tiniest patients

NCT ID NCT06676904

Summary

This study aims to find the safest platelet transfusion level for extremely premature infants born between 23 and 27 weeks. Researchers will compare whether using a lower platelet count threshold for transfusions works as well as the current higher threshold at preventing serious bleeding while babies survive. The trial involves monitoring about 2,400 extremely premature infants to determine which approach leads to better outcomes.
