New test may better predict who will benefit from platelet transfusions

NCT ID NCT02858323

Summary

This study aimed to see if a newer lab test (C1q-binding) could better predict how well a patient will respond to a platelet transfusion compared to the standard test (IgG). Researchers analyzed stored blood samples from 68 patients with low platelet counts who had become resistant to standard platelet transfusions. The goal was to improve the matching process for future transfusions by understanding which test gives more useful information.
