First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tested a blood-filtering treatment called plasma exchange in 21 adults with severe COVID-19 and breathing problems. The goal was to remove harmful inflammatory substances from the blood to improve lung function and reduce the need for a breathing tube. Researchers compared patients who received plasma exchange plus standard intensive care to those who received standard care alone.
