Blood filtering tested as lifeline for COVID patients in storm
NCT ID NCT04751643
Summary
This study tested if a blood-filtering procedure called therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) could help hospitalized COVID-19 patients with severe breathing problems. It compared standard intensive care alone to standard care plus TPE in 21 patients. The goal was to see if removing harmful immune proteins from the blood could calm a dangerous overreaction called a 'cytokine storm' and help patients recover faster.
