Heart plaque mystery: why cholesterol drugs fail some patients
NCT ID NCT06936111
First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looks at why some people with coronary heart disease continue to have plaque buildup in their arteries even when taking strong cholesterol-lowering medication. Researchers will follow 900 adults aged 18 to 75 who have had a stent placed and have mild blockages nearby. They will use ultrasound to measure plaque changes and check if leftover cholesterol or inflammation are to blame.
