Foot vibration may boost walking after stroke

NCT ID NCT07551141

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether applying gentle vibration to the bottom of the foot can improve walking speed and balance in people who have had a stroke. Fifty-eight participants will be randomly assigned to receive either real vibration or a placebo (no vibration) for 30 minutes a day over three days. Researchers will measure changes in gait speed and dynamic balance using standard walking tests.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

plantar vibration

What this could lead to

If it works, this simple, non-invasive technique could offer a new way to help stroke survivors walk faster and keep their balance better.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 58 people. The vibration is applied for just 3 days, so any benefits may be short-lived or not apply to all stroke survivors.
