Placenta patch may help heal diabetic foot wounds
NCT ID NCT07014176
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a patch made from donated human placenta tissue, used alongside standard wound care, can help close diabetic foot ulcers better than standard care alone. About 120 adults with diabetes and a foot ulcer that hasn't healed for at least 4 weeks will take part. The main goal is to see if more ulcers close completely with the placenta patch.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dehydrated human placenta tissue (dHPT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new option to help heal stubborn diabetic foot ulcers faster and more completely.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with only 120 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is an add-on to standard care, and its benefit over standard care alone is not yet proven.
