A pinwheel, a hologram, or gum: which distraction tames Kids' needle fear?
NCT ID NCT07770191
First seen Aug 18, 2026 · Last updated Aug 18, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether simple distractions—blowing a pinwheel, watching a 3D hologram of butterflies, or chewing sugar-free gum—can reduce pain and fear in children aged 5 to 10 during a blood draw. About 164 children will be randomly assigned to one of these three activities or to standard care. Right after the procedure, the child, a parent, and a nurse will each rate the child's pain and fear, and parents will also rate their satisfaction with the care. The goal is to find an easy, drug-free way to make blood draws less distressing for young patients.
