NCT ID NCT07290712
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study follows 5,000 patients who spent more than 72 hours in the ICU to understand long-term cognitive, physical, and emotional problems known as Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). Researchers will collect data during the hospital stay and for up to five years after discharge, using questionnaires and blood samples. The goal is to identify risk factors and improve care for patients and their families.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could identify risk factors and better ways to diagnose and treat long-term problems after intensive care.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational registry, not a treatment trial. It will not test any new drug or therapy, so direct patient benefits may take years to emerge.
