Could a physio see you in the ER? study tests new way to ease doctor shortage
NCT ID NCT07443098
Summary
This study tested a new way to handle common muscle and joint pain in the emergency room. Researchers wanted to see if specially trained physiotherapists could safely assess, diagnose, and discharge patients as well as doctors could. Over 100 patients with non-urgent back, neck, or shoulder pain were randomly assigned to see either a physiotherapist or a doctor, and senior doctors reviewed all the decisions to check for agreement.
