Light therapy boosts gum disease treatment in small study
NCT ID NCT05252000
First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) — a treatment that uses light to kill bacteria — to standard deep cleaning improves outcomes for people with gum disease. Twenty adults with deep gum pockets and bleeding participated. Researchers measured changes in bleeding and pocket depth over 3 months. The goal was to see if the light treatment reduces infection and inflammation better than cleaning alone.
