Summary
This study tests a treatment called photodynamic therapy (PDT) for adults with moderate to severe acne. A gel called Ameluz® is applied to the face, then activated with a special red light. The goal is to see if this combination reduces acne lesions better than a placebo. About 126 adults are taking part in this phase II trial.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Ameluz® (BF-200 ALA) with red light photodynamic therapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a new, non-antibiotic treatment option for adults with stubborn moderate to severe acne.
- What could go wrong
- This is a mid-stage trial with only 126 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Photodynamic therapy can cause temporary redness, swelling, and pain during treatment.
