Light therapy tested for Post-Mastectomy nerve pain – but study never started

NCT ID NCT06194136

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study planned to test photobiomodulation (a type of light therapy) on nerve pain and sensation in one woman after mastectomy. The treatment used red and near-infrared light on the affected area for six weeks. However, the study was withdrawn before any participants enrolled, so no results are available.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Photobiomodulation (PBM) light therapy device

What this could lead to

If it worked, this approach might point toward a non-drug way to ease nerve pain and improve sensation after mastectomy.

What could go wrong

This was a tiny case study (only one person) and was withdrawn before any participants enrolled, so we have no evidence it works. Light therapy devices also vary widely in settings, making results hard to generalize.
