New scan aims to slash repeat surgeries for breast cancer patients

NCT ID NCT04999917

Summary

This study tested a new imaging method to help surgeons during breast-conserving surgery. It involved 206 women with early-stage breast cancer. The goal was to see if a special PET-CT scan of the removed tumor, done right in the operating room, could help the surgeon spot and remove any remaining cancer cells during the same surgery, potentially avoiding the need for a second operation.
