MRI-Guided brain zaps aim to lift depression
NCT ID NCT02863380
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This pilot study tested whether tailoring repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to each person's brain activity, using functional MRI, could better treat depression that hasn't responded to medication. 27 adults with treatment-resistant depression received personalized rTMS, standard rTMS, or another type of brain stimulation (tDCS) in a crossover design. The main goal was to see if the personalized approach could correct brain imaging abnormalities, with symptom improvement as a secondary measure.
