Could carbon dioxide replace standard dye to shield kidneys during artery surgery?

NCT ID NCT06656988

First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether using carbon dioxide gas instead of standard iodine dye during leg artery procedures can prevent serious kidney problems in people at moderate risk. About 1,960 adults with blocked leg arteries will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard dye or a carbon dioxide-based approach. The main goal is to see if the carbon dioxide method reduces major kidney events within 90 days after the procedure.
