Exercise before and after hernia repair may speed recovery and reduce pain
NCT ID NCT07680777
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a program of exercise and education before and after inguinal hernia repair helps people recover faster, with less pain and a quicker return to work and daily activities. Half of the participants will follow the exercise program, while the other half receives usual care. Researchers will track pain, hernia recurrence, and overall experience for three months after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
exercise and education program
What this could lead to
If exercise before and after hernia surgery proves beneficial, it could lead to clearer guidelines for preparing patients and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with 98 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Exercise might not reduce pain or speed recovery as hoped.
